Welcome to the official Friends of SP 4449's website. We're a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration, maintenance, and operation of the former Southern Pacific steam locomotive based in Portland, Oregon.

Train Festival 2009 a success
SP 4449's cross-country trek to Minneapolis and Michigan came to a successful end when 4449 returned to Portland on October 20th. We thank the railroads that allowed us to operate on their tracks, volunteers who have contributed their skills and efforts, people who have bought our concession items and donated funds, and all of the passengers who bought tickets to ride and enjoy the trip!

OREGON RAIL HERITAGE FOUNDATION

In 1998, the three locomotive support groups along with local railroad organizations, and support from other interested parties, formed the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation to develop permanent facility for continued restoration and maintenance of Portland's steam locomotives: OR&N 197, SP&S 700, and SP 4449.

ORHF is in the process of acquiring property in southeast Portland and will soon begin constructing a new facility. We need your support so these treasures can be enjoyed by generations to come.
