From April 7 thru 14, 2007, the 4449
underwent urgent repairs on its babbitt bearing for the #2 driver. The
P&W shops in Albany with its wide drop-table pit permitted for
the
entire #2 driver to be completely removed from the locomotive for work,
something we couldn't do at the Roundhouse.
The bearing was repaired and reinstalled, just in time for the upcoming
Puget Sound Steam Special trip 4449 ran with the Union Pacific #844
around the Seattle area. Today, the steam locomotive returns to
Brooklyn via the old Oregon Electric line, via Albany, Salem, Woodburn,
Donald, Wilsonville, Tualatin, Tigard, Lake Oswego, and Milwaukie.
