For the past ten days 4449 sat in the
Albany, Oregon railroad shops due to urgent repairs needed on a babbitt
bearing. Once that bearing was fixed, it steamed back to Brooklyn on
April 15, 2007 to get ready for the upcoming Puget Sound Steam Special
double-header with the UP 844.
The Albany Democrat-Herald wrote up a very nice story about the repair
work performed, and gave a hint that we would depart first thing in the
morning. Lots of people got out of bed early that Sunday morning just
to see us roll out of Albany, enroute to Brooklyn passing through
Salem, Woodburn, Donald, Wilsonville, Tigard, Lake Oswego, and
Milwaukie.
